Lab Director
Dr. Jianli Chen is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Utah (U). Prior to joining the U, he was a Post-doc at US National Renewable Energy Lab researching smart community development. He completed his PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology with a MS in Computer Science and Engineering. He is currently leading several projects supported by US National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, and Utah Department of Transportation for improved urban and building sustainability, resilience, and intelligence of the future smart city.
Graduate Student
Biao is a PhD student in Civil Engineering at the U. He received his master’s degree in Management Science and Engineering from Southeast University, China. At SEU, he studied project financing and public governance for infrastructure. Prior to that, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Chengdu University of Technology, China. His current research focuses on residential energy use, indoor thermal comfort, building inspection, and the application of computer vision for improved intelligence of transportation systems.
Gang Jiang is currently a Ph.D. student at the University of Utah. Before pursuing a doctoral degree, he received a Master in Construction and Civil Engineering from Tianjin University, doing research to develop fault detection and diagnosis methods for building systems with incomplete data. Currently, Gang is working on building energy model calibration for developing a high fidelity and resolution energy model to solve practical problems in practice. His research interest includes (Urban) Building Energy Modeling (BEM), Fault Diagnosis Detection (FDD), and Building Energy Demand Response (DR).
